Windows XP DVD Burner Problem
by Zed on May.04, 2009, under Tech Solutions
My mother often has a problem with Windows not recognizing her burner as a burner but as a normal dvd player, as with millions of other Windows XP users. I’m not sure exactly what causes the problem but here is the solution:
- On your Desktop, Right click on ‘My Computer‘ and choose ‘Manage’.
- In the Left hand pane, click on ‘Device Manager‘.
- Click the ‘+‘ sign next to ‘DVD/CD-ROM drives‘ to expand the list.
- Right click on the Suspect DVD drive in the list below and choose ‘Uninstall‘
- Click on ‘OK‘ to the warning that you are about to remove this item from your system.
- Reboot the computer.
- When Windows restarts it will reconfigure the drive back to it’s normal functional state.
Hope this helps!
iPhone Display Problem – Blank Screen
by Zed on May.04, 2009, under Tech Solutions
Had my first fault in months today on my iPhone 3G. The screen just went blank, could hear messages and emails coming in but without a screen it was usless. I was about to do a full restore in iTunes when i remembered that the phone did that when it was new about 9 months ago, I had to call tech support then and they told me how to reset it. This is how you do it:
- Press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simultaneously for a approximately 10 seconds.
- The screen will go off and then the phone will reset itself.
- The Boot Logo will then appear.
- When the logo appears it means that the reset is done.
- Give it a minute or 3 and then you will regain full functionality.
A huge sigh of relief!

Media sharing has been turned off because a required Windows setting or component has changed. For additional assistance, click Web Help.

Has anyone else had this problem with WMP11 on Vista?
The sharing service was stopping me from accessing media stored on the PC from the XBOX 360.
The fix for me was to forcebly start the ‘Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service’. Even though the service lists as ‘Started” in Services it wasn’t starting properly. The path to the executable is: “C:Program FilesWindows Media Playerwmpnetwk.exe” so go to start>Run> and type in the Open box C:Program FilesWindows Media Playerwmpnetwk.exe and hit enter. It will run in a command prompt windows for a few seconds and all should be sorted.
Upon searching the web for a solution all I found was thousands of forum posts with the exact same problem and NO SOLUTION. In every case the problem wasn’t solved and just repeated on different post sites. There was the same solution on almost every post that didn’t work for me or anyone else for that matter which askes users to reset the digital media rights, delete certain files and all kinds of other hogwash.
Simple fix: Run C:Program FilesWindows Media Playerwmpnetwk.exe
